Varsity softball defeats Hawks in first game of the season
For the Varsity softball opener, the Gretna Hawks jumped out 1-0 in the first inning, but that was all, as Tunstall defeated the Hawks 14-1 in the end.
Junior shortstop Nia Green put the Trojans on the board with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first. She later added a double and two singles as she went 4-4.
“I was very excited since it was the opening of the season. I knew it was gone the second it left the bat,” said Green.
Junior Harley Hearp put in four innings in the pitching circle, striking out 7 and giving up 1 hit.
Senior Kayla Wyatt and sophomore Abby Wallace each contributed two hits.
The JV softball team played away at Gretna and won 7-2, also putting them 1-0 for the season.
The Varsity Trojans’ next home game will be held on Tuesday, Mar. 20, at 5 p.m against Bassett.
