A big year for all Netflix users was 2013. This was the year that not just movies and TV shows of all genres were available, but movies and TV shows created by Netflix became available. Since then, Netflix originals have become increasingly popular, receiving great ratings from viewers young and old. 

I have been a Netflix user for around six years. I enjoy a range of different movies and shows from romance, to adventure, to action. The first original I watched was Fuller House, which is a continuation of Full House. This show includes funny and romantic scenes from the characters’ daily lives. I think people ages 14 and up should be able to enjoy it. Also, it would be helpful for anyone who watches it to also watch Full House first. By Watching the original show will allow viewers to be familiar with the characters and know what roles they play in the family. 

Another original I have seen is To The Bone. It features a girl who has bulimia and lives in a home with other people that also suffer from this illness. The main character, a girl in her twenties, has a very different and strange relationship with her family, and also has a step-sister who she is really close with and is more like her sister. She is always worried about her weight and what people think of her and how she looks compared to others. This show is for people that are more mature and I recommend people should be at least 16-years-old to watch To The Bone.

Free Rein is another original worth-watching. It tells the story of a girl who moves to another country for her father’s job. She learns to horseback ride, makes new friends, and falls in love with a boy who is a trainer. People should watch this show because it has a lot of fun scenes and teaches different people about horses, and how to ride and take care of them, even if they are wild.  

Another popular show is Thirteen Reasons Why, which is about a girl named Hannah who kills herself and sends tapes to everyone she meets who made a bad or good impact on her life in some way. This show relates to teenagers the most because it deals with a lot of the high school life in general. Also, this show wakes people up to the issues of bullying and depression. This original is another one that I would recommend viewers be at least 16-years-old to watch.

Also, one of the most recent ones added to the long list of Netflix originals is When We First Met, which is about a guy who falls in love with a girl at a Halloween party. They go back in time through a photo booth to make sure they end up together and not just be best friends. It is an interesting original with some major plot twists.

Netflix originals’ genres range from comedy acts to horror movies. Many comedians have hour long comedy skits on the site, along with reality shows of their own. The show, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, is a satirical comedy about a girl rebuilding her life after spending 15 years of her life kidnapped in a bunker. It’s absolutely hilarious, but it will also make one cry.

Netflix originals have produced some of my favorite shows and has allowed me to expand on what I would normally watch in my free time. These shows and movies are highly advertised on the Netflix site.

Netflix also offers many children’s originals. Many are science and math based, but are still very entertaining in order to keep children fixated on the show. A lot of the children’s originals are shows that are being brought back from years before. The show, Care Bears & Cousins, is an original that is based off of the show, The Care Bear Family, later renamed The Care Bears, that aired from 1985-1998. Trolls: The Beat Goes On is a original that is based off the animated movie Trolls, that came out in November 2016.

To be a member on Netflix, it cost $9.99 a month, which is not a bad deal for the amount of content available. Users can pay more per month to be able to download movies that are not available to all on the regular Netflix website. Netflix also has an app, website, and it is on Google Play for Samsung phones and tablets, and itunes for iPhones and iPads.
