Trojans defeat Bassett Bengals

On a rainy day, the sun came through as the varsity baseball team faced off against the Bassett Bengals on Wedneday, April 25. Trojans defeated the Bengals with an 8-2 win against Bassett, which put them at a 10-2 record for the season.

The game started smoothly with Will Davis pitching a three up-three down in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first inning, Tunstall’s left fielder, Grant Elliot, hit a double. After the double to start the bottom of the inning, pitcher Will Davis hit a home run over the left field wall to drive both players home. Will Davis started off the 3rd inning with his second home run of the night.

Will pitched a complete game of seven innings while only allowing two runs.

“I love to go and pitch as long as I can,” said senior Will Davis.

This was also Davis’ first time producing two home runs in a single game.

“I wasn’t even trying to make it that far. I was just doing what I thought was best.”

Senior Hunter Scarce also drove in two runs throughout the game.

With the victory for the Trojans, Bassett dropped to a 2-8 record for the season. On the other hand, THS is currently tied for first place in the district with the Patrick County Cougars. The two teams share a district record of 8-2.

“At this point in the season I’m very proud of the guys for their effort. I’m hoping we can play well and win the regular district championship,” said head coach Barry Shelton.

The Trojans will be up at bat again on Friday, April 27, away at Magna Vista. The game will begin at 5 p.m.
