Lady Trojans take a win over Cougars on senior night

On Tuesday, May 9, the Lady Trojans held their senior night. Following the emotional event, the team also banded together for a clinch defeat against the Patrick County Cougars. By the end of the game, the final score was 6-5, putting the record for the regular season at 12-3.

Before the game officially began, seniors Kayla Wyatt, Sidney Foster, and Mikayah Pullium were recognized. They walked across the field with their parents and received gifts, including flowers and balloons.

As a tribute to the seniors, sophomore Kayley Devivi and juniors Harley Hearp and Nia Green played a strong defense for the Trojans.

Devivi played the majority of the game with the exception of being subbed out of the game Hearp. Devivi ultimately allowed three hits, but many strikeouts through the duration of the game. Hearp came up to the plate to strike out the Cougars for the rest of the game.

It was a game full of teamwork for the Trojans.

“As a team we won the game, no individual won it alone,” said Devivi.

Juniors Brooke Craddock and Abby Wallace led the team offensively with two hits each leading into bringing other players home. Several players had the chance to step up and get one hit. Some of these players were Foster, Green, and freshman Kalei Hundley.

Although the Cougars had a close defeat, the team still played with a strong defense. Their latest defeat put Patrick County with a record of 6-8, playing Bassett for their own senior night.

The last varsity girls game will be on Tuesday, May 14. The location is to be determined.
