Van Allen selected as new school board representative
As the school year comes to an end, the time has come for a new school board representative to be selected. Filling senior Jordan Keatts’ current position, for the 2018-19 school year, will be Lauren Van Allen.
Van Allen had to go through a rigorous process of getting two teacher recommendations, 100 student signatures, writing an essay, and an interview to see if she would be the right fit for the job.
She was recognized on May 8, during the school board meeting, along with the three other students that will be representing Pittsylvania County, after the principals decided she would be a great voice for THS.
Van Allen is looking forward to being the school board representative for THS because she wants to give students a voice.
“Being the representative means being the voice for Tunstall’s students. If a student has any concern, they can tell me and then I will take it to the principals, and if they agree, I have an opportunity to take it to the school board meetings and make them aware,” said Van Allen.
When school board members are discussing concerns in the schools, they like to hear the representatives’ opinions, since these students are directly involved in the schools they are representing.
Van Allen is excited about taking on her new role and can’t wait to get involved with the local community.
