Lady Trojan soccer rises above Halifax
The Tunstall High School Girls Varsity Soccer team faced Halifax on Friday, April 25, 2014.
The lady Trojans battled with the Comets relentlessly for nearly 90 minutes of regulation play with no goals for either team.
With the two minute warning posted on the clock, both teams pushed for a winning goal. Receiving a pass around midfield, senior captain Ali Wiles carried the ball down the right wing, steadily out pacing the defense. Matching her run was fellow senior Carrington Atkins in the center. The Comet’s defense broke position to cover the quickly encroaching Wiles, leaving Atkins wide open in the center to easily accept the lay-up pass offered to her by Wiles to break the draw.
The Lady Trojans defense, led by sweeper Maddie Hughes and keeper Anna Flinchum, held strong through the remaining seconds to keep the win with a 1-0 score.
The Lady Trojans district record stands at 4-3 and they continue the season against Chatham on Monday, April 28, 2014.
