Beta spreads positivity with bathroom beautification
The girls’ bathroom on the A-wing got a surprise makeover after school on Thursday, when the Tunstall Beta club decorated the stalls and mirrors with homemade decals made by club sponsor Mrs. Watson and Beta historian, junior Amanda Talbott.
“Amanda originally came up with the idea,” said Watson. “She wanted to help her peers by spreading positive messages to her peers, as well as doing something that tied into the anti-bullying and suicide prevention programs here.”
One example of these decals had already been printed and was posted on Mrs. Watson’s door when school started back up. It consisted of three potted plants and the words “Be-leaf in yourself” written below. Each decal is designed and printed using a design program called Cricut. Each of the designs were made and printed by both Mrs.Watson and Talbott.
When asked why they only chose to do the girls’ bathroom and not the boys’ bathroom as well, Watson replied with a surprising answer.
“We asked several male students around the school, not just those in Beta, how they thought the boys in the school would treat the decals. They all agreed that, more than likely, they would be more susceptible to being damaged.”
With that in mind, the decision was made to only hang them in the girls’ restroom for now. However, other locations are being considered.
“We are also considering hanging some in the locker rooms in the gym, and on the bathroom door in Mrs.Calloway’s classroom,” said Watson.
“In addition, if the decals do well in the girls’ restroom, we may consider hanging them in the boys’ restroom, but on the wooden doors leading to it, and not on the actual stalls themselves. We have several decals designed for them if we choose to do that, mostly dealing with comic icons like Superman.”
The project was also an idea that the DECA club and senior Lauren Van Allen planned to do. The club approached Beta and asked if they were willing to let them help with the project. The Beta club agreed, and the DECA club will help to sponsor this project and will finish hanging the decals in the other girls’ restrooms near the office and the gym.
