Trojans beat Bengals on Homecoming
On Monday night the Trojans defeated the Bengals 27-18 on Homecoming Night in front of a rowdy, spirited home crowd which featured hundreds of students, parents, staff, and alumni. The Trojan record was moved to 5-2.
The game was moved to Monday because of the effects of Hurricane Michael.
The Trojans were forced into a double digit deficit early in the first quarter as the Bengals scored two touchdowns on their first two possessions, but missed two PAT’s putting the score at 12-0. Those blocked extra points seemed as if they would be instrumental in the Tunstall win.
The Trojans remained scoreless until the second quarter. Senior wide receiver Grayson Hardy ran for a 3-yard touchdown to give the Trojans their first score of the night cutting the lead to five. After the Bengals scored again, sophomore quarterback Dylan Burnett led a seven play, 58-yard drive that was capped off with a 40-yard touchdown from Ethan Broyles.
At halftime, the Trojan crowd was treated to the announcing of the Homecoming Court who were flanked by JROTC cadets and flags. Seniors Jeremy Carter and Laura VanAllen were named the Homecoming King and Queen.
At the start of the third quarter the Bengals kicked off to the Trojans who quickly scored to take the lead after senior running back Clay Hardy’s 3-yard touchdown run. The Trojans also got a big run from quarterback Burnett.
In the fourth quarter the Trojans put the game away when junior wide receiver Will Blackwell caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Burnett. Ultimately settling the score at 27-18.
The Trojans were led offensively by Clay Hardy and Dylan Burnett. Hardy had 28 carriers for 138 yards and a touchdown while Burnett had 11 carriers for 127 yards while also going 8 for 11 passing for a 109 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
The Trojans were led defensively by senior lineman Tony Johnson who had eleven total tackles and four sacks and senior lineman Ryan Bartley who had a fumble recovery.
The Trojans will play at Magna Vista on Friday, October 19 at 7 pm.
