Volleyball team plans to dominate the court

THS volleyball has always been one of the main attractions at our school. With head coach Matt Beard entering another year at the helm, the girls work hard day in and day out to be the best team they can be. In spite of an impressive win-loss record last season at 17-5, the Lady Trojans fell short in their quest for a ring last year, but they do not plan to be hindered from being the most dominant team in the district.

Junior Kaylee Scarce is laser focused on becoming a top-tier team in the state. “Well, we are working 10 times harder in practice. Also, I think we all have a new mindset for this season,  we are tougher mentally. I can speak for everyone when I say we all really want to get our district title back after not getting it last year,” Scarce said. The girls are more motivated than ever to bring THS a championship.

For some of the girls, it’s the last time they will step out on the court wearing the red and white. Senior Sarah Marlow has high hopes for her final ride at THS. “I’m mostly looking forward to senior year because of this volleyball season. We are giving all we have this year in order to succeed. Our team has a lot of talent and I’m hoping we can show that talent by winning titles. I can’t wait to play and enjoy my last volleyball season as a Trojan,”  Marlowe said.

The Lady Trojans had a rousing victory Tuesday night in front of a packed gym. The girls defeated the Dan River Wildcats 3-0 behind an impressive showing from every player on the team.  Junior Kaylee Scarce tallied 4 kills and 6 points; junior Brooklyn Owen scored 5 points and 3 kills; senior Sarah Beth Marlowe registered 17 points and 3 kills; senior Cathryn Estes totaled 6 kills; senior Cassidy Scarce had 3 kills; junior KK Stevens piled up 22 assists and 5 kills.

The girls also gutted out a tough 3-1 victory against Gretna on Thursday night in front of another rocking home crowd. Leading the way for the Lady Trojans were junior Kaylee Scarce with 11 kills, 2 blocks, and 9 points; senior Cathryn Estes with 8 kills and 9 points; junior KK Stevens had a whopping 35 assists and 9 points; senior Sarah Beth Marlowe with 6 kills, 4 blocks, and 6 points; senior Cassidy Scarce and junior Brooklyn Owen each had 5 kills.

The Lady Trojans are back in action Sept. 3 at Dan River.
