Tunstall Trojans and Chatham Cavaliers go head to head on the field.

The varsity football team suffered a defeat in a wild offensive shootout Friday night against the Chatham Cavaliers. The game was a nail-biter from start to finish. The Cavs took a 3-0 lead heading into halftime after a 41 yard field goal. Coming out of the half the Cavaliers took the ball right down the field and after a missed PAT left the score at 9-0. The Trojans quickly took the ball down the field and after a deep pass from junior quarterback Dylan Burnett to senior wide receiver Ethan Broyles the trojans got on the board leaving the game at 9-7.

After a successful onside kick the Trojans looked to be in full control of the game. Burnett hooked up with senior Will Blackwell for another deep score and the Trojans were in business leading 13-9 in the third quarter. Chatham had an answer, though, as they ran the ball into the endzone and lead 17-13.

The fourth quarter was the most energetic of them all. With the crowd rocking behind the Trojans it felt like the entire field was shaking. Burnett hooked up once again with Blackwell for a 60 yard touchdown pass to give the Trojans a 20-17 lead. Once again Chatham had an answer and after a deep pass from Ethan Reynolds to Zae Edmunds the Cavaliers led 24-20.

The Trojans would not be stopped as Buck Long ran the ball in to give the Trojans a 26-24 lead. Late in the game the defense needed a stop, but could not get it as Ethan Reynolds found Michael Gunnell for a late touchdown pass that would seal the win for the Cavaliers 30-26.

The Trojans fall to 0-3 on the season and will face GW at home on Sept. 27th
