The fall of 2019 featured cross country, football, golf, volleyball, band, and scael. These sports devoted hours to represent THS the best way possible. The students involved challenge their brains and bodies to serve the school to the best of their abilities. With the fall season ending, many of the sports and individual students won awards and championships.

Cross Country

The cross country team consisted of 21 runners. The team competed in the district tournament where the boys finished in second, led by Ashton Weaver, Charles Hearp, and Evan Adkins. The girls finished in third place, led by Sophia Hearp, Abby Eades, and Brittany Dalton.

THS also had runners compete in the regional race on November 6. The boys finished in 10 place, while the girls finished 11 in the race. The Trojans finished their season strong and will look forward to another strong running season.

Football

The THS football team wrapped up their season on November 8 against Halifax County. The boys finished with a record of 1-9. This is a disappointing turn around from the 7-5 record the team posted last year. The Trojans will miss the playoffs; however, they look to rebound from a year where they lost four games by 10 points or less. The Trojans will look forward to a younger squad as they graduate 22 seniors out of a team of 38 players.

Jamie McBride

The JV football team finished with a record of 2-8 as they fell to Halifax County in the last game of the season. The JV team looks to grow and bring in more sophomores; the team consisted of 22 eighth graders and freshmen, but only nine sophomores. The success of the team could come with bringing in some older, more mature talent. The boys will begin weight training and conditioning in the winter.

Volleyball

The THS volleyball team finished their season with a loss to Lord Botetourt in the regional tournament. This loss put their season record at 22-5. The girls did accomplish a lot this season. The team ran through the district with a perfect 5-0 record which boosted them to the regular season championship. The girls won the district tournament championship after defeating Magna Vista in straight sets. The Lady Trojans look to take their talent further in the tournament next season.

Junior Kinsley (KK) Stevens was one of the main contributors to the team this season. She passed the 1,000 career assist mark this season. This boosted her to receive Piedmont District Player of the Year. As Kinsley heads into her senior season, she will look to build on this accomplishment and help the team advance further.

The Trojan golf team finished their season in early fall. The team competed in several tournaments through the fall of 2019. Dylan Martin, Karington Brooks, Noah White, Elliot Jones, Madeline Barker, and Mallory Woodall all competed for the Trojan golf team this year. The group finished seventh at regionals in Bristol, Tennessee. During regionals, Dylan Martin led the team shooting a 78. Martin, White, and Brooks all earned all district honors. As the team looks forward to next year, many of the players look to improve their game and make it further in tournament play.

Band

The THS Vanguard Band does more than play songs and march on Friday nights. The band competes on weekends against other schools. The team’s last competition was at Kecoughtan High School in Virginia Beach. The team finished third in the drum major and received high scores in music, marching, and guard.

The fall season is over for the band; however, they are looking forward to Christmas Parades and TCE season.

Scael

The THS Ace team has competed in multiple competitions garnering an impressive 7-3 record on the season. The team consists of Joseph Costagliola, Brendan Lahti, Cameron Marshall, Miranda Cochran, Eben Leigh, Jackson Kime, and Kaitlyn Davis.

The JV Scholastic Bowl team has recorded an 8-2 record on the year. The team consists of Pranav Shah, Taylor Dodson, Colton Wells, Lucas Walker, and Christopher Flores.

The ACE team has four more competitions for the season.
