Badeaux’s Cajun Kitchen: Worth the drive
Many restaurants have done their fair share of keeping a fun, diverse menu, but, as far as I have seen, Badeaux’s Cajun Kitchen has out done their competition. From deep fried alligator to frog legs to gourmet burgers, Badeaux’s has kept a menu fit for all types of food lovers.
Badeaux’s Cajun Kitchen is located at 2001 Seymour Dr, South Boston, VA 24592. It’s hours are Sunday through Saturday from 11 A.M. to 11 P.M. However, due to Covid-19 regulations, the temporary everyday hours are from 11 A.M. to 10 P.M. This hole-in-the-wall restaurant is attached to a Quality Inn, like Santana’s in Danville, and has been quietly doing business there for three years before it became popular.
The menu consists of all types of seafood, salads, burgers, soups, sandwiches, and po’boys (a traditional sandwich from Louisiana). The famous fried alligator is what compelled my family and I to drive all the way to South Boston just for dinner. We ordered the fried alligator nuggets with the special “gator sauce” as an appetizer. The alligator was very flavorful with a texture like chicken, and complemented by the sweet and tangy signature gator sauce. As main dishes, we ordered the Rodeo burger as a suggestion of the waitress, as well as a seafood plate with frog legs and bacon wrapped scallops and it was delicious.
The portion size for the dinner plates are large, but the sandwich and burgers had an average size like most other restaurants.
The prices can be high depending on what you order; any alligator, frog, or seafood related will be the most expensive while the soups, salads, sandwiches, and burgers are fairly priced.
The service is wonderful; all the waitresses are very friendly and helpful if you are not sure what to order. The restaurant is medium sized and starts to get a little crowded even at half capacity because of Covid-19 regulations by 7:00 P.M due to the entertainment on the weekends. Their normal entertainment is a local band on Friday nights and karaoke on Saturday nights, and these events liven up the restaurant.
