As senior athletes step off the court/field/track for one final time and wrap up their seasons with the long awaited senior night, they’re also making decisions on whether or not to further their athletic career in college. Below are students from the Class of 2021 who have formally committed to play their sport in a college/university.
Ashton Weaver: University of Charleston
"I've been running XC and track for four years now. I instantly knew that the University of Charleston was the place for me just because of the coach and the guys there. They have a great program and I'm looking forward to getting some championships! My major will be financial planning. I'm mainly going to miss my teammates, some of them have been with me through it all and to just split off like that...
Kaylee Scarce: UVA Wise
"I've been playing volleyball since 7th grade. I committed to Wise because it felt like home, I could really see myself there. "I'm so so excited to go to Wise, I have been talking to my roommate for months now and I honestly can't wait to meet her and live with her and play with her! Overall playing multiple sports in high school has most definitely helped me learn how to juggle a busy schedule and...
Savannah Reid: Roanoke College
"I started running my sophomore year. I committed to Roanoke because of the outdoor environment, the size, and its closeness to home. I'm very excited to start this new journey but I'm really going to miss my friends that are going away. My major will be elementary education. I've had the best coaches I ever could possibly ask for, they have always been so supportive during my good and bad races. They...
KB Griffith: William Peace University
"I've been playing softball since I was 7. I committed to William Peace because of the atmosphere and the coaching staff, they made me feel at home. I can't wait to be at WPU! I will be majoring in exercise and sports science to become an athletic trainer. I'll miss the connection of friends and the feeling of family and support you get every time. I'll also miss the joking around and becoming better...
Kinsley Stevens: Averett University
"I've been playing [volleyball] on a team since the fourth grade. Averett has always felt like home since I started playing travel under Coach Miller; they're all super welcoming and nice. I'm so excited [to attend Averett] especially since the classes are small, and I'll be able to have a more personal connection with my professors. My major will be nursing. I think that my high school coaches have...
Kalei Hundley: Averett University
"I've been playing softball since I was about 12. I committed to AU because I've always loved AU and I wanted to stay local. I feel like they're super well-known and [have] great programs. I plan on majoring in athletic training or nursing, I'm leaning more towards athletic training to stay within sports. [My high school coaches] taught me the little precise things I needed as well as built on the...
