Simmons, Keatts advance to state level for wrestling
Tunstall High School will have two representatives at the Virginia High School League Region 3A Wrestling State Championships. The top four in each weight class will advance to the competition held at the Salem Civic Center this weekend.
Chloe Simmons will advance to state level wrestling after finishing second in the region in the 106 weight class. Simmons placed 3rd in the Piedmont District tournament and entered regional play with a 9-5 record. She has wrestled for five years, but this is her first year wrestling for the Trojans.
Simmons is also the first female wrestler from Tunstall to advance to state level. She stated that she owes her success to her coach, who has continuously supported her throughout her wrestling career at Tunstall.
Santanna Keatts will also advance to the state tournament after his third place finish. Keatts was at the top of the podium in the district meet and was 18-1 entering regional competition in the 126 weight class. Keatts has a 55-15 career record.
Tunstall had four additional wrestlers place at the regional level. Xavion Jamies took home a fifth place finish. Gabe Spina, Trey Collins, and Lucas Moore all placed sixth.
