Songs turning 20 in 2022
Dubbed the “worst year in fashion history” by Vice, 2002 could be considered the best year in music history. Here are some songs turning 20 this year that were probably blasted through headphones on an original iPod Nano:
A Thousand Miles (Vanessa Carlton) Released February 12, 2002
Whether you’ve heard this song from the movie “White Chicks” or from Vine (RIP), it’s impossible not to sing the lyrics at the top of your lungs…even if you say you hate it. This song is one of the easiest to recognize no matter where it’s heard.
Complicated (Avril Lavigne) Released 11 March 2002
The break-up anthem of 2002 was released and has since been a staple of every post breakup playlist. The ability to scream the lyrics “Why’d you have to go and make things so complicated?
I see the way you’re acting like you’re somebody else” whether it be with friends or alone is unmatched by any other song.
Lose Yourself (Eminem) Released October 28, 2002
Eminem’s soundtrack for the movie 8 mile was not without hits. “Lose yourself” quickly became a fan favorite with distinguishable lines like “vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti.”
Jenny From The Block (Jennifer Lopez) Released September 26, 2002
After Lopez’s quick leap to fame, she released this as a way of reminding everyone that she’s still Jenny from the block and she isn’t letting fame take her away from who she used to be.
Whether you love them or hate them, these top songs from 2002 are sure to be stuck in your head for years to come.
