JV baseball improve to 9-2
On Monday, April 25, in the first of four games in as many days, Tunstall jayvee boys (9-2) beat Dan River 14-3. Conner Hedrick was the winning pitcher, striking out nine in four innings of relief. Hedrick also added two hits and two RBIs to help his own cause.
In the bottom of the third down one, Lathan Witcher had a hit to the centerfielder who bobbled the catch enough for Witcher to gain an extra base. After Witcher stole third, Tyler Spencer had an RBI ground out to score Witcher and tie the game 3-3. With two outs, Dakota Younger had a two RBI triple to start the Trojans edging away with the victory.
Younger was big at plate with a game high four RBIs with a single, double, and triple. Lathan Witcher added two hits in the win with as many stolen bases.
In the bottom of fourth, Shaffer Boles singled on a hit to left field, scoring one. Eben Owen followed with a beautiful bunt down the first baseline that resulted in a single and loading the bases. Will Testerman picked up a single RBI with a fielder’s choice.
Last week, Tunstall had two big wins against Chatham 23-0 and Patrick County 8-6. Hedrick was again the winning pitcher against the Cavs with three strikeouts. Tyler Spencer pitched in relief and tallied five strikeouts.
Spencer had a game high four hits including two singles, a double, and a triple. Josh Brown added a triple and a single, while Cam Cockran had two doubles and Nash Glassock added a double and a single.
In a closer 8-6 victory against Patrick County, Carter Higdon was the winning pitcher. Witcher went the distance with a solo homerun in the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1. Brown, Younger, and Spencer each had two hits.
