Paddington journeys into theaters
Since 1958, when “A Bear Called Paddington” was published, this British bear had a place in countless children’s hearts. Fifty seven years later, a movie is out featuring this unique character along with his red, floppy hat.
The new film, Paddington follows the story of this marmalade-loving bear as he journeys to England. After an earthquake hits his home in Peru, he is forced to leave behind everything (except his citrus jelly) to search for a new life. Along the way, Paddington is faced with many trials, such as being wanted by a taxidermist. He longs to find a new home, family, and experience love like never before.
Although this movie was targeted at an elementary school age group, it has something for all ages. Many have experienced how a loss can impact a life whether it be a loved one, a friend, or a job. Teenagers especially can relate to the feeling of not fitting in as Paddington did in the new town. Even an elderly person can share in the bear’s desire of wanting to find love and a place that feels like home.
Overall, Paddington will bring laughter, happiness, and possibly tears. It may be a children’s movie, but the moral of the story touches every viewer, regardless of age. It will be a memorable movie just as the classic books are.
