Danville proves opinions wrong

Recently, Movoto Real Estate published a list of the most boring cities in Virginia with Danville coming in first place. They based this off of activities and places they consider crucial for a town to be “fun.” However, since the company is located in California, their opinions don’t reflect a true citizen of Danville who has experienced the the area.

Motovo describes Danville as “mind-numbing” and a “dull place.” They based the list off nightlife, live music, active life options, arts/entertainment, restaurants, and the percentage of young residents from the ages of 18 to 34. These things alone do not determine how exciting a place is, but in their eyes it does.

Yes, this city may not have clubs on every corner, but it does have plenty of restaurants with bars. Along with that, there are numerous live music events like the summer concert series that bring singers such as Danielle Bradbery and Justin Moore.

Danville is known for the Riverwalk Trail on the Dan. It is a 7.5 mile path for bikers, runners, and walkers. The scenery along the way is beautiful and consist of views of the river, wildlife, and historic builidings. Not to mention the newly built YMCA with a swimming pool, running track, and weightlifting room or the popular gym known as Planet Fitness. There are many opportunities to be active if a person chooses to be.

Arts and entertainment events are offered throughout the town. The Danvillle Museum for Fine Arts, Carrington Pavilion, Danville Stadium Cinmea 12, and the North Theater are just a few places to experience the city’s rich, unique culture. Along with that, the Danville Symphony Orchestra hosts concerts that bring in a large crowd. Every May, Festival in the Park is celebrated. This three day event showcases the community’s artwork and crafts with live music from local bands.

Although there are many fast food joints, as Movoto points out, there is also a large amount of fine-dining restaurants. In downtown Danville, the Golden Leaf Bistro, Moon River Thai, and Jake’s On Main have a reputation of great service, incredible food, and classy dining experiences. In the Piedmont and Riverside Drive area, there are many sit-down restaurants like Kick Back Jack’s, San Marcos, Outback, Red Lobster, and Olive Garden. These places offer a wide variety of foods from Mexican to seafood.

Movoto Real Estate claims the town is boring because of the lack of young residents. However, Danville Community College has over 6,014 students enrolled with the majority of them being 18-34 years old. Averett University has 2,400 total students with 1,000 of them being learners that fit the age category mentioned.

Danville, Virginia, is not a boring, dull, or mind-numbing town. In fact, it is quite exciting regardless of MotovoReal Estate’s opinion. This diverse community is a great place for all ages full of history, entertainment, and restaurants. It continues to grow into a place full of fun opportunities. This truth is not changed by others’ inability to see Danville’s worth.
