Debs begins to close its doors
Just as the craze of “Prom season” begins to ignite, one of Danville’s hotspots is closing. Debs in the mall began its going-out-of-business sale on January 9, 2015, but it’s not just Danville’s location. All 287 retail locations across 42 states will begin to close up shop due to the company’s second bankruptcy.
Sophomore Shelby Cody said, “I did like their prom dresses a lot and they had really good prices and deals. I don’t want Debs to close down.”
Debs began as a discount hosiery and lingerie store named JOY Hosiery in 1932, but renamed itself in the 70’s and focused its sales on young women’s clothing and accessories. The company originally started in Pennsylvania.
The entire store is 40-60 percent off, including their line of ball gowns and night-life dresses. Many Trojan’s will miss the store, especially those who depend on their low prices for shoes, jewelry, and prom apparel.
“I’m kind of sad to see them go, it’s one of the few stores in the mall I liked,” said senior Deborah Cassada. “I have already bought my prom dress and I got it from Debs.”
Debs will remain open for thirteen more days.
