The Varsity Lady Trojans absolutely dominated their biggest rivals, the Dan River Wildcats, last night in a three set match. The Trojans showed up on the court with a win already in mind.
The JV team led off with a two set match ending with a 25-14, 25-21 win. The varsity team then followed, ending the three match showdown with a 25-11, 25-10, 25-12 win.
Coach Paige Echols coached Varsity last night helping lead them to victory over the Wildcats.
Junior Madison Austin led the team with 23 assists. Senior Carlie Marshall followed with 8 kills and 3 aces, junior Colby Eastwood added 5 kills and 6 aces. Sophomore Delaney West helped the team as well by getting 6 kills and senior Parris Atkinson then contributed to the team with 8 digs.
In this three set showdown the crowd was getting rowdy and hyped while the Lady Trojans took the lead in the first two sets. During the third set the Trojans were down to begin, but then made a huge comeback going on to win the entire game. “I feel like it was a really successful game despite some players getting sick. It was also great watching all my teammates do really well and being able to get excited for them. It was awesome to see us as a group be so successful,” junior Khamauri Mays said.
“Dan River said they were going to beat us so that really pushed us to win,” said Atkinson. Following the Wildcats pregame, West commented too, saying, “They wanted to beat us, so we all went in knowing we just had to beat them.”
“I was very pleased with the results of the game, and it all came from working as a team and our high energy on the court. I think everyone played their best, even if there were some mistakes, we all pulled through,” said Marshall.
This was a very successful game for Trojan volleyball considering the team had a player out sick. The Lady Trojans will definitely have a successful season and will continue the Tunstall volleyball legacy of being the team to beat. This season will be one for the books.
Tunstall will host Martinsville High School on Thursday, August 31, with JV starting at 5:30 and Varsity immediately after. The theme is Construction Zone.
