Shoes are the baseline of what we wear everyday. At THS, students wear all types of different brands, shapes, colors, and designs. Throughout the school year, more and more shoes will become popular. Every person has their own style and opinion on what brand or design is the best.
Converse
Having a pair of everyday shoes is a big factor in life. When walking, running, or even in gym class, a pair of comfy shoes is a necessity. Converse is a very popular brand that a lot of students in THS own. White is the most common color in this type of shoe. Sophomore Kaitlyn Gregory has a pair of white, platform Converse. Kaitlyn Gregory likes this type of shoe because it makes her taller, and they can match with any outfit you plan for the school week. “[My Converse] have extra cushion in the bottom and never give me blisters,” Gregory said.
Tennis Shoes
To some people, running shoes are an everyday, normal shoe, but in a runner’s eyes this is not the case. Having a good and comfortable pair of shoes for a runner is essential. Every runner is different and likes certain brands or types of shoes. Sophomore Katelyn Brooks’ favorite running shoes are Hokas. The ones that she has are bright blue, purple, and orange. Katelyn loves these because they don’t make her feet hurt after a long, hard cross country race. “[Hokas have] just the right amount of cushion and they give me a boost,” Brooks said. However, sophomore Alejandro Balderramas favorite running shoes are Brooks. They are black and white and help him run faster. “[They are] super comfortable while I race,” Balderrama said.
Slide-on shoes
When being in a rush, a pair of shoes that you can slide on is convenient. During this school year, one popular pair of slides are Yeezys by the brand Adidas. When explaining this shoe, sophomore Camden Nidiffer mentioned them looking like space shoes. “They are super soft. It’s like walking around in a cloud,” Nidiffer said. Junior Xavier Christian explained when he wears Yeezys, he always puts on socks. “[Yeezys] are very stylish,” Christian said.
One other pair of trending slide-on shoes are Birkenstocks. Sophomore Carolina Wheeler explained that they are a type of sandal and some people refer to them as ‘Jesus sandals.’ Popular colors of Birkenstocks include brown, black, white, or gold. Once you break them in, they are very comfortable for an everyday shoe. Carolina Wheeler said that they can match with everything depending on what colors you have. Even though they are expensive, they are very well liked throughout THS. “I would recommend them to everyone in the world. [Birkenstocks] are my favorite,” Wheeler said.
Crocs
One of the most popular and diverse pairs of shoes this school year are Crocs. Crocs are a type of shoe that have a rubbery texture with holes on the top and a strap you can adjust. When wearing Crocs, putting them in ‘four-wheel drive’ is a very popular saying. Senior Jackson Jones explained when doing that you take the strap of the Croc and lower it behind your heel to give you extra stability. “When I’m out mudding, I put them in four-wheel drive,” Jones said. Jones has several pairs of Crocs that are many different colors. Some people wear socks with their Crocs, but Jones says otherwise. “[Socks] are a hot topic, but if you’re a true Crocs person, it’s no socks,” Jones said.
When owning a pair of Crocs, decorating them is a must. Jibbitz are charms that you can customize your Crocs with. Jones explained that you can put many of these on your Crocs. They can come in many different designs and shapes according to your interests. Some examples are coffee, animals, sports, food, letters, and more. “I probably have like 30, but my favorite is a big alligator,” Jones said.
Cowboy boots
When working hard, people need a good and sturdy pair of shoes. One popular pair of these are cowboy boots. Junior Ryan Stewart owns square toed, brown boots. He has these for Votech in the mornings. “[Boots] are good so your shoes won’t catch on fire,” Stewart said. Sophomore Tanner Simms also has a pair of boots that are leather with an inch heel. Tanner explained that they are comfortable, and he will get another pair when he has worn them out. “[The best part] is the American flag on them,” Simms said.
Teachers style
Not just the students have trending shoes at THS, but so do the teachers. Science teacher Mr. Bowman has a pair of red Nike Jordans. They are comfortable and help him stand on his feet all day long. If he gets another pair, he would get the color red. “I am color blind so red is the only color I can see,” Bowman said. Football coach Mr. Brown’s favorite shoes are his Adidas Ultra Boosts. He likes wearing them at school or when going out with his family. The colors on his shoes are neutral, and he would recommend these to anyone. “My brother told me how comfy they are, and I got my first pair a couple years ago,” Brown said.
Overall, students and teachers have different styles of shoes they wear. At THS, everyone has their own opinion on what is more comfortable or stylish but being diverse is the best superpower to have.
