The summer of 2023 was full of adventure for a lot of THS students. Senior Grace Wann had an exciting, adventurous, and interesting summer. Her experiences took place in the beautiful and delightful Bahamas with her friend Ella Payne and her family.
Wann’s venture started off with her airplane flight. This was her first time flying out of the country. After her semi stressful flight, she finally landed at the airport. Once it was time to collect their luggage, they noticed something was wrong. “My luggage went missing for two hours,” Wann said. Her suitcase was nowhere to be found. Two hours later, her luggage appeared from another flight that had landed.
Payne and Wann eventually got settled at the resort they were staying at. They had a wonderful time exploring the land and what it had to offer. After many days on the beach, there were some unexpected changes in weather. “I wish I would have looked at the weather, because I feel like I didn’t pack enough clothes appropriate for the weather,” Wann said. There were a few days full of rain, which did not allow for days on the beach. Instead, it gave Payne and Wann a chance to have fun indoors with one another.
As the rainy days continued, the girls decided to do some shopping. They went to an interesting gift shop that sold items such as keychains, t-shirts, bracelets, necklaces, and lots of other items. Wann decided to purchase two shirts, a keychain, and a few pieces of handmade jewelry. When Wann went to check out something went wrong. “When we pay we have to use a certain card. The cashier kept telling us that my card was not working, so I had to scan it twice. I ended up accidentally getting charged 10 dollars more than what I was supposed to pay,” Wann said.
With the weather eventually clearing up, it gave Wann a chance to explore all of the amenities. She was able to go down many awesome waterslides and take pictures on the beach. Wann noticed some interesting things while strolling through the resort. “There were lots of fish tanks and aquariums,” Wann said. Throughout the resort there was quite the variety of wildlife. “There were cats roaming around the resort. Not stray cats, but resort cats,” Wann said. The precious animals lived at the resort and were fed by those who worked and those who stayed at the resort.
After each day full of making memories, the girls and their family went to eat dinner. Wann went to a few different restaurants. Not a single restaurant had her favorite drink, Dr. Pepper. Which meant Wann had to drink Coke if she wanted a soft drink similar to her favorite. In addition to that, she did not find the food amazing. “I’m picky. It’s a me thing,” Wann said.
To wrap up her trip, she had a successful flight back home. Wann and Payne had a great time in the Bahamas. Wann says that she would definitely go again. If she were to do something different, she would check the weather next time to be more prepared. Despite the crazy things that happened on her trip, she had a wonderful time and an amazing experience over her summer.
