Luffman has Grand Prix dreams
Freshman Micaela Luffman is a part of many after school sponsored event and activities, but her true passion lies away from the school ground and in the ring. She goes to Silver Stream Stables ran by Elicia Owen and boards two horses there, Idgie a 14.2 hands high saddle-bred, and Isaac a 17.2 hands high French warm-blood (Selle Francis).
Luffman started riding when she was four, and got her first horse when she was six and has road ever since.
Luffman says, “When you ride all your problems melt away, you forget about everything for just a little while because your only focus is on your horse.”
She started out her competition career in the saddle seat division and has won many blue ribbons in that event, even placing third in the state of Virginia when she was six in her age group.
When Luffman was eleven she started jumping and fell in love with immediately. She began to look for a jumper in the summer of 2013, and found Isaac soon after. While he was a little rough around the edges when they started out, within a year she placed second in the piedmont classic hunter jumper series.
Luffman says, “Winning second in the series was such a big accomplishment. I didn’t win first, but I was extremely proud of my horse and I in how far we had come.”
Now Luffman waits in eager anticipation to start the circuit in March and try to move one step closer to the Grand Prix.
Luffman says, “I’m so excited to see just how far I will go this season.”
