Mrs. Yeatts is the librarian at THS and all the students and faculty love and appreciate her. This marks her 16th year of being at this school. Back in 1973, she graduated from THS and her 50th reunion has just recently passed.
Jobs throughout Yeatts’ life
Yeatts has lived in Pittsylvania County her whole life. Once she had graduated, she went to college and became an English teacher at Gretna Junior High. After nine years of teaching, in 1989 Yeatts started working at Woodrow Middle School as a librarian. Yeatts adored working there, but six years later it unfortunately closed. “I was heartbroken. I loved the people and job so very much [that] I did not go back to being a librarian,” Yeatts said. She started homebound instructions full time and worked 70 hours a week. After 14 years, she came out of hibernation and became a librarian once again at Greenrock Prison. She made a cave into a beautiful library and enjoyed her time there. In the year 2008, she started working at THS and has worked here for 16 years.
Becoming a librarian
Becoming a librarian was not a hard choice for Yeatts. When working as an English teacher, she developed an incredible love for the library and books that were available for the kids. She observed what the librarian at Gretna Junior High did and knew she would be good and enjoy that job. “I love people and what books can do for people,” Yeatts said. She likes everything about books including buying them, the cover, the excitement, and even the smell.
Being at Tunstall
Yeatts loves the students, faculty, and being at THS all together. She has a special place in her heart for the kids. “They keep me young,” Yeatts said. She cherishes the community and care that goes into these kids by the teachers. Yeatts appreciates the love she got from the school when she unfortunately had to battle through cancer. She does not regret working here at THS.
Books
As a librarian, Yeatts loves buying and reading books. Interestingly, Yeatts has a hard time reading and focusing but still enjoys it. She knows books can change everything for someone. Her two favorite genres are fantasy and science fiction. “[My favorite book] is always the one I’m reading at the time,” Yeatts said. She takes her time reading and reviewing books for the students. She also enjoys taking recommendations from the kids. Yeatts always tries to get a lot of diverse books for the community at THS to read.
Interests
Yeatts has many interests outside of school or work. She enjoys going on walks while listening to different books on tape. She has a mechanical mind and likes to problem solve with games like sudoku puzzles. On the weekends, her and her husband will go to the community market very often. They also enjoy listening to live music or shopping. Yeatts has one dog named Barney, and a cat named Precious. “We adore them, but they are nothing but trouble,” Yeatts said.
Yeatts is a very outgoing and beloved librarian at THS. She is a great role-model for the students and even the staff. She loves the students and cares for them deeply. She is very wise and gives great advice to all. “You are so much better than you think you are,” Yeatts said.
