Live music is always an experience, especially if you’re the one on stage. Recently, Averett University held a musical titled Music of the Mouse. The name is a reference to Mickey Mouse since it was composed of various Disney songs. Music of the Mouse was performed on Sept. 14-17. Giuseppe Ritorto, Dr. Anne Lewis, Anna Timm, and Justin Swann-Hall were the director, music director, stage manager, and costume designer, respectively.
Tunstall Junior Denver Dalton and alumna Brooke Burke were able to perform in it. Burke had a solo, which was “Waiting on a Miracle” from the movie Encanto, and Dalton had a major part in “I’ve Got a Dream” from Tangled.
Dalton found out about this musical because he was in the cabaret last year, also saying that he would definitely do it again next year. “I always had something to do, it was never boring,” Dalton said. He enjoys doing theater and being able to spend time with Burke, since they are friends, and being able to meet new people. He feels proud of himself for being able to do this musical, as he said that he always feels nervous. “I think it opens my shell a lot everytime I do it,” Dalton remarked.
The connections that Dalton was able to make with new people and building stronger connections with the people that he already knew was something that he said he wouldn’t trade for anything. He looks forward to next year’s cabaret!
