Halloween comes with many fun activities. Watching movies, going to haunted houses, and carving pumpkins are just some of the things people do around the exciting season. But there is one thing that almost everyone loves to do, and that is dressing up. I am sure that at one point in their life everyone loved dressing up for Halloween and as I like to say “you are never too old to dress for Halloween.”

Pop culture changes every year and Halloween costumes are no different. With every year comes new trends and with new trends comes new costume ideas. The year 2023 has had many new movies, shows, video games, and books, all of that influences Halloween costumes. Here are the costumes that I think will be popular this year, and maybe this will help you  get some ideas on what you want to be.

Barbie and Ken:

How could I make this list and not include the iconic Barbie and Ken? Barbie will go down as one of the most successful films of this year, making over one billion dollars at the box office. The second I saw the pictures of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling filming in those bright colored costumes on Venice Beach, I knew that there was going to be nonstop Barbie costumes. Barbie’s pink cowgirl outfit and her skating on the beach neon outfit seem to be the most popular costumes so far, but personally I want to see people dressed as Allan and President Barbie. 

Taylor Swift: 

I need you to hear me out on this. Taylor Swift is one of the few artists who has managed to have a high level of fame for 17 years. It makes perfect sense that someone would want to dress as her for Halloween. I feel like this year we will see many Taylor costumes. People will most likely dress as her in different eras. While I hate to bring up Taylor’s love life, I need to see a Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce couples costume this year.

Mario:

It is not even October yet, and I am already seeing so many Mario costumes. Mario was also a very popular movie this year and that resulted in many costumes. Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach are most likely going to be the most popular. If you want to dress as someone from the Mario movie but do not know who, then I would recommend Bowser because he is voiced by Jack Black, and I love Jack Black.

Ariel:

I am going to be upset if I do not see one Ariel costume this year. No one can convince me that it is not fun to dress as a mermaid. If you are thinking of dressing as Ariel, I think you should find a friend to be your Flounder or take a stuffed flounder around with you.

Witch Costumes:

I mean, how could I not include this? Every year it feels like we see witch costumes, and this year will be no different. Witches are simple but stylish. These costumes are also relatively easy to make.

These are all of the costumes that I think we will see a lot of this Halloween season. If you are planning on dressing up this Halloween and you still do not know what you want to be, feel free to use any of my picks. If you’re not feeling any of my picks then there is an easy way to decide.

No matter what costumes are popular this year, this Halloween will be great. Although some people may feel like they are too old to dress up for Halloween, I think everyone should have a little fun this year.
