THS is known for unforgettable pep rallies and this year was no different. Throughout the last hour of the school day, students were brought to the gym for an entertaining afternoon. The pep rally included games, chants, teacher homecoming, winners of spirit week, cheerleaders, and more.
Toward the end of the day, the band walked throughout the halls of the school. When you hear the band, that is when you go to the pep rally. This is a great way to get students excited for the afternoon. “The band made it better and more pumped up,” freshman Kenley Barbour said.
All the students were in the gym and there were four sections for the freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. “It is very chaotic in a good way,” sophomore Avalyn Emerson said. Each grade had their own chant, and the most rowdy group were the winners. This year, the seniors got the win with the chant, “THS! I love it! I love it! I love it!”
During the pep rally, the THS cheerleaders had a great performance that included a dance, cheers, and chants. The JV and Varsity cheer teams had two different dances and both were very impressive. “It’s very nerve wracking but in the end it is worth it,” JV cheerleader Alexia Rigney said.
Games are another activity that the students love at the pep rally. “I really enjoy the games because it lets the students interact as a whole,” junior Chloe Simmons said.
Tug of war is one of the games where one grade pulls at one side of a rope and another grade is on the other side. The seniors got the win for tug of war. The hula hoop game is where each grade holds hands and has to get the hoop to the end of the line. The sophomores got the win after tying with the juniors and beat them in the second round. Hungry human hippo was a game where a student is laying on a mat with a basket and the second student pushes them around for the balls. The sophomores got their second win with the most balls collected. The last game is musical chairs and when the music stops, students have to find a chair before everyone. Senior Bryson Pool won musical chairs.
Throughout spirit week, students can pay or vote for color strips, teachers, and best dressed. Color strips are different for each grade and the longest strip will win at the pep rally. The students can also put money in jars for the teachers that were voted prior and the winner becomes king and queen at the pep rally. The last thing you can vote for is the best dressed which is who had the best outfit for the spirit days.
Each grade had a different color strip. Freshman were orange, sophomores were green, juniors were pink, and the seniors were blue. At the pep rally, each grade pulls out their color to see who has the most strips. The juniors had the most followed by the seniors who were second.
The teachers that won king and queen were math teacher, Mr. Tittiris, and science teacher, Mrs. Burton. Many of the students love these two teachers and were glad they won. “I really appreciate everyone who voted for me and it means a lot,” Tittiris said.
There were two different winners for best dressed each day of the week. Monday’s winners were senior Skylar Simms and senior Evan Lewis for ‘Merica Monday. On Tuesday, sophomore Carolina Wheeler and junior Denver Dalton won for Hollywood versus Dollywood. For Iconic Character Wednesday, sophomore Tristen Knowles and senior Evan Lewis won. Thursday’s winners were senior Grace Wann and freshman Chris Draper for Soccer Mom versus Barbeque Dad. For Spirit Friday, senior Grace Wann and senior Evan Lewis won once again. Each winner received a bag of candy.
The THS pep rally is very enjoyable and shows school spirit. “The pep rally made me believe that we could pull through the game and we did,” sophomore Sophia Scarce said.
