The Hunger Games movie series has had a strong hold on people for over a decade. The popularity has begun to increase again due to the upcoming release of the prequel movie called The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Dedicated fans have never stopped rewatching the series over the years. The series still gains new fans throughout the years because of people seeing it still being talked about on social media and being able to stream it on streaming services. 

The movies were adapted from The Hunger Games book series written by Suzanne Collins. At the time of the release, dystopian novels and movies were extremely popular, with The Hunger Games being a fan favorite of the genre. Since the release of the first Hunger Games movie in 2012, people have been captivated by main characters Katniss and Peeta trying to survive throughout each movie by fighting people in other districts and then later the government as a whole.

Each action packed movie in the series has characters fighting for their lives and for the lives of others while almost dying but also making heartfelt sacrifices and friendships. There are two tributes from each of the 12 districts that have to fight in the Hunger Games where only one can survive, but as the movies starts to progress the rules start to change. The series has revolts against people in power, fighting to the death, and is full of many unnecessary and brutal deaths. 

People have very strong opinions about what they believe should have happened and what should not have happened in the series. Particularly in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, where some people believe that multiple beloved characters should not have met their end and other not so loved characters should have met their end instead. Another strong opinion that people have is whether Katniss belongs with Peeta or Gale, but the majority of people know which option is the best for her. 

The prequel movie coming out later this fall will explain and give some background information on why the government became the way it is in the future Hunger Games. It will tell the story of President Snow many years before he became President of Panem and the one who essentially controls the Hunger Games. Most people are thrilled to have another movie added to the series, despite no actors and most characters from the original movies not returning. 

Make sure to either rewatch or watch the entracing movie series for the first time before going to see The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes when it comes out on November 17.
