Coach Oakes is the man, the myth, the legendary substitute of THS. He is a very unique, respectful, and opinionated individual. Oakes was a teacher at THS for 25 years before retirement; however, he missed us so much that after retirement he returned for another 17 years as a substitute.
Not only was Oakes a biology and embryology teacher, he was also involved in THS’s athletics. Oakes was the head girls’ track coach, as well as the boy’s assistant coach, head basketball coach, and the defensive coordinator for football. Anyone who has ever met Oakes can tell you how proud he is of his and his team’s accomplishments throughout the years.
Oakes shared that he has always loved THS. “I love being here, the school has been good to me,” Oakes said. It is no question that Oakes is definitely a favorite at THS and is loved by many students and staff members. “I enjoy the students at Tunstall. I try to treat them with respect and how they should be treated,” Oakes said.
Many people can come up with at least one word to describe their lives. Although there are so many different words to choose from, Oakes likes to keep it simple and to the point. “I live in America, so my life is great,” Oakes said.
On behalf of the Trojan Messenger, we would like to thank Coach Oakes for the time and hard work he has put into our school. We appreciate you and all that you do and have done!
