It is essential to have a good system that is in charge of the school. At THS, there are many prominent people ahead of the students. One great example is assistant principal Mr. Echols. Echols undertakes many diverse things around THS to help the students, staff, and even janitors. While doing these things, he makes sure to also balance home life alongside his work life.
Echols started working at THS in 2019 as an assistant principal. Before this, he taught for seven years. Five of those years were at Southside and two were at Chatham Middle. Echols grew up in Danville and went to THS as a student. While in high school, he pursued many sports including football, wrestling, and baseball. Echols has always had a passion for sports and still does now. He is the athletic director for THS and wants to make an impact on the sports.
Many responsibilities come with being an assistant principal. Echols works hard on all of these important jobs. He is in charge of the bus schedule, discipline, observation, and more. When the worker who mows for the school is out or busy, Echols will take charge of this and help him out. Being ahead of athletics has always been one of Echols favorite things to do. “I enjoy the games and talking to the coaches about strategy,” Echols said.
Having good work attire is always important. Echols usually wears a shirt, tie, and khaki pants. As a lot of students know, Echols has very unique ties and tries to alternate them each day. “I would say I have close to 100 ties and 12 are solid red,” Echols said.
Not only is school a big part of Echols life, but so is family. Echols has a wife who also works at THS as the new volleyball coach. He has two boys and a girl whose ages are five, four, and two. “They keep me on my toes,” Echols said. On the weekends, Echols spends a lot of time with his wife and kids. One of his favorite things to do while it is warm is go to his in-laws lake house.
Echols is very out-going and knows how to do his job whilst balancing family time. THS is very lucky to have an assistant principal who takes charge like Echols!
