Sophomore Clay Arnn strives to be helpful. He plans on becoming a veterinarian and has recently been volunteering at Chatham Animal Clinic. He helps take care of the animals and cleans up after surgeries.
“Being able to meet all the cute animals is probably the best thing about it,” Arnn said. His favorite animal at the clinic is Jolene, a hairless cat. “I don’t like cats very much, but Jolene…she’s top tier,” Arnn commented. He went on to mention two birds that he cared for and how they reminded him of his own bird, Leo. Arnn has also been known to say many questionable things, his most famous being his various chants of “burn the witches.” This began his ninth grade year in World History I, when he learned about the Roman Empire and Catholicism. Arnn then explained that his “burn the witches” sentiment does not apply to animals, unless they are mean.

“I was diagnosed with scoliosis about two years ago. Ever since I got diagnosed my mom has been there with me through it all. Before I was able to get surgery I constantly had terrible back pain but it has been two months post operation and I have to say my biggest struggle right now is trying to tie my shoes.”

“I want to be a cardiothoracic surgeon when I get older. I watch Grey’s Anatomy to learn and see the importance of being a surgeon. I’m very smart and good at school because I take school very seriously and devote my time studying as much as I can so I will achieve good grades to get into med-school. Becoming a surgeon is important to me because I want to be able to help people and save lives.”

“I play volleyball because it gives me an outlet. No matter what is going on at school or in my personal life, I get to go to the gym and turn that into my passion for my sport. I have played volleyball at Tunstall for three years now, and I have played a total of seven years. My biggest supporter is my dad. He has always been there to talk when I am frustrated and is always pushing me to get better. I feel I have improved a lot since I started. Not only physically, but I have much more mental toughness and understanding of the game.”

“My name is Azam Khan, and while school often is the most prevalent part of my day as a result of the plethora of college courses I’m taking, I still relegate time to enjoy my life. My favorite pastime for the better part of the year has been going to the gym with my guy Wes. I have other more miniscule hobbies, such as drawing or gaming, but they are usually relegated to weekends or long breaks, but I’d just prefer to hang out with my friends on the weekends anyways. After I graduate I plan on going to UVA, but I dunno, DCC did put a nice offer in, so I might go there.”

“I love being BETA president because I get to know about all of the events going on, and it gives me a leadership position. I was a little bit forced into the position, but I feel like I have earned it,” junior Sydney Pritchett said.

“Leaving Dan River was definitely hard because I had to leave behind my childhood friends. But it was time to start a new chapter, and I couldn’t be happier to be a Trojan. For this being my first year at Tunstall, I was truly scared at first to come here, but I have met so many great people and new friends.”

“I like playing video games at home, eating, and spending time with my family. I really like playing on the computer, specifically Roblox. I like all the games on Roblox and don’t really have a favorite.”
