Back in 2017, Mojang, the developers of Minecraft decided to start letting its community be involved in the development of Minecraft and called it the Mob Vote. This allowed the community to vote and choose the next mob (animal, monster, or even environment) being added to the game. It was all fun until the 2020 Mob Vote where influencers really controlled the Mob Vote and led to the glow squid winning for that year, and it was by far the most useless mob added to the game. After that year’s Mob Vote, the Minecraft community has decided to rebel against this year’s Mob Vote.
The main reason they are rebelling is because once they decide on which mob is getting in, the other opinions will never be brought up into the next Mob Vote. Instead of adding the remaining mobs that didn’t get picked, Mojang would add three whole new mobs for next year and discard last year’s mobs. The discarded mobs could have given Minecraft so much playability, but they will never have another chance to be shown again.
Another reason is that the Mob Vote started conflict within its own community. The Mob Vote originally was meant to bring the Minecraft community together as a whole, to pick the next mob to be put in the game. Unfortunately, this has divided the community on what should get added into the game. If part of the community didn’t like what they added, they would quit the game entirely. What was supposed to bring the community together has brought it down to its knees.
Once the community realized that Mojang was the enemy, they decided to strike back. They made posters resembling WWII posters to tell players not to vote. This has brought several influencers together to try and stop the Mob Vote. They have tried to get Mojang’s attention to show them that their community doesn’t want the Mob Vote anymore and instead wanted them to add all three mobs or none at all.
Unfortunately, the beginning of the strike was too late. The winners of this year’s Mob Vote have already been decided and have disappointed several fans, but this has not stopped the community. Now they are prepared to stop next year’s vote and hopefully put an end to the Minecraft Mob Vote entirely.
