Virginia College Week is the opportunity for students to have fees waived when applying to colleges. This year, college week was held October 23-27. Ms. Mininger, our wonderful college advisor, was in the cafeteria during this week handing out codes for applications. Students were not allowed to miss class for these workshops. They were only allowed to have access to this at lunch, unless they scheduled a one-on-one meeting with Ms. M.
There was on-site admissions with JMU on October 18 at 2:15p.m., Mary Baldwin at 2p.m. on October 23, UVA-Wise at 2p.m. on October 25, and Averett at 2p.m. on October 27. There was also merit based scholarships. In order to attend these meetings, students should have went to Canvas, found the college rep visit section, and filled out the Google Docs under the college you choose to learn more about.
Ms. M hosted a door decorating contest during this week. Teachers were allowed to decorate their door with whichever college theme suited them. It could be the college they attended, a college they support, or their favorite collegiate sports team. The teacher that won received donuts for his/her homeroom class.
Some additional information to be aware of is that on Monday, October 23, teachers and students were allowed to wear their favorite college t-shirt or sweatshirt
with jeans and any other college attire that is within the school’s dress code policy. Thank you all students and staff for making this an amazing week!
Congratulations to Mrs. Mcguire who won the door decorating contest!
