Anti-bullying week is the second week of November throughout the nation. At THS we celebrate this week by having a spirit week that is sponsored by the FOR club. The FOR club is an offshoot of Rachel’s challenge and stands for ‘Friends Of Rachel’. The club’s mission is to promote positivity around the school and community. Mrs. Midkiff, a sponsor of the FOR club, had the idea of participating in anti-bullying week.
At THS, we want to recognize anti-bullying by having a spirit week. Monday’s theme was band shirts to ‘make some noise about bullying.’ Due to Election Day, there was no Spirit Day on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the theme was Twin Day to have someone as a support system. Thursday was Disney Day because it is the kindest place on earth. To end the week off, we wore neon to shine bright with kindness.
Another thing that THS does to celebrate anti-bullying week is pass out bracelets that Pittsylvania County provided and say, ‘PCS wipes out bullying.’ The teachers pass them out to students who participated in spirit week. The goal is to get the kids to wear them often so there is a chance people ask about them, and then they can tell them about anti-bullying awareness.
People all around the nation and schools bring attention to this week because bullying has become a big problem in the world we live in. “Many lives are lost due to bullying each year,” Gunn said. Make sure to recognize what this week truly means and put it into your daily life. Promoting anti-bullying should not just be this week. It should be all the time!
