In today’s generation, many teens have an obsession with “dupes.” Many products, clothes, and brands have a cheaper version which is referred to as a “dupe.” The popular teen app TikTok is what mainly started the slang. It influenced people to buy the dupe because it works the same, sometimes even better. Comparing two things, one has an expensive name brand and the other works the same but is inexpensive.
The makeup brand Elf Halo Glow Liquid Filter is a “dupe” for Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter. The Elf Halo Glow is $14, while Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter is $49. Elf Halo Glow is a formula that enhances the overall look of skin while imparting a soft glow to the face. The Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter moisturizes and brightens up the face.
Accordingly, the Lip Glow oil from Amazon is the “dupe” for Dior Lip Glow Oil. They both have the same name but two different prices. The Amazon lip oil is roughly $9 and the Dior lip oil is $40. The Amazon lip oil is for dry lips and to nourish the lips itself, while also hydrating them. Dior lip oil is for protecting and hydrating the lips but also gives a little plump. Two things the same thing, just different pricing and shades.
For blush, the Essence Beauty powder blush is one of the “dupes” for MAC blush. Side by side you cannot tell the difference. Essence blush is usually around $6 but MAC blush is $33. The blush from Essence is soft, and buttery, and it gives a clean uplifted look. The overrated MAC blush is buildable and provides color to the face.
Now for the shoes, there is an Amazon boot that refers to itself as a “dupe” of UGGSs. There are similarities between the two but one has the name brand UGGs. The Amazon uggs are $20, but its competition is $155. The main difference people say is the colors and the support of the shoes. Apparently, the UGGs have better arch support than the Amazon ones.
Most say Amazon is filled with dupes and I agree. Amazon leggings seem to be a new “dupe” for the Lululemon leggings. Rather spending $27 for the Amazon leggings than $100 for Lululemon leggings. Feeling the same softness and having the same colors but the logo on the Lululemon leggings seem to appeal to others more.
The Revlon Hair Dryer is a viral “dupe” for the overly expensive Dyson Airwrap. The Dyson does come with more attachments but still vary the same outcome. At most the Revlon is $40, but the Dyson is $500. The Revlon gives a blowout from brushing through your hair and leaves shine, but Dyson does pretty much the same, helping protect the shine and gives bouncy loose curls.
For hair, L’oreal Paris Shampoo is the top “dupe” for the shampoo from Olaplex. It leaves your hair with a shine at the end of each one. L’oreal is priced at $10, while Olaplex is $30. This is not a huge difference, but you are saving $20. L’oreal shampoo is to help strengthen your hair and reduce breakage. Olaplex is useful for hydration and brightening.
Personally, I would rather pay less for the same outcome but others will say different. Dupes are all around us in the world today. Many people are thankful for this slang so they can save some bucks.
