Everyone knows that you are either an Apple Music user or a Spotify user. Most of the time people feel very strongly about which side they are on in this debacle. This has been going on for a while now, people bickering over what music app is best and the different pros and cons of each one. We have so many music fanatics at THS, and they most definitely have their opinions on everything music.
Sophomore McCall Hollie is most definitely an Apple Music lover. While she does not have the trending Spotify Wrapped, she still has something very similar that Apple provides for their users. Hollie’s top five artists were Zach Bryan, Drake, The Weekend, Youngboi, and Polo G. Though Hollie loves Apple music, she doesn’t feel as if this is an entirely accurate representation of her most played artist of the year. “I like Apple music because there are no ads,” Hollie said. Overall she would definitely say she is proud of the fact that she supports Apple music over Spotify.
Sophomore Caroline Clay is a Spotify fanatic. “Ever since I got my first pink iPod in fifth grade I have used Spotify,” Clay said. She loves Spotify Wrapped and feels like it embodies her music taste perfectly. Her top five artists were Morgan Wallen, The Weekend, Taylor Swift, Zach Bryan, and Tyler Childers. Whereas her top five songs were “Heartless”, “Tennessee Whiskey”, “Call Out My Name”, “Feathered Indians”, and “Thinkin’ Bout Me.” She does not feel like these are very accurate because she didn’t listen to “Thinkin’ Bout Me” and “Feathered Indians” as much as her Spotify Wrapped made it seem like she did. Overall Clay feels like Spotify is the best music app out there.
Junior Kernice Smith has always been an Apple Music fan. She simply just feels like Apple Music is better than other music apps. Smith would never change to Spotify because she feels like Apple Music has everything that Spotify does and they do it better. “I like the format of Apple Music, to me everything is easier to access,” Smith said. Her top five artists were Chandler Moore, SZA, Drake, J. Cole, and Taylor Swift, and her most played song was “Open Arms” by SZA. Smith will confirm for all the people that her ranks are indeed accurate.
Sophomore Caroline Neal has been a Spotify fan since day one for seven years. “I love Spotify because I have Spotify premium, so I can listen to music without ads,” Neal said. She loves Spotify Wrapped because it gives her a good review of how her music taste has changed throughout the year and reminds her of the songs she listened to at the beginning of the year. Her top five artists of 2023 were Zach Bryan, George Strait, Fleetwood Mac, Tyler Childers, and Flatland Cavalry. She doesn’t feel like this is accurate because she feels like she listens to a lot of artists that didn’t make her list. Neal’s top five songs are “Rock’n Me”, “Country Squire”, “California Dream”, “What I Got”, and “In Dreams”, and she does feel like this is more accurate than her artist. “I’m a faithful customer,” Neal said.
Personally, I am an Apple user. I have always used Apple Music and I love it. The aesthetic of the way the app is set up is just up to par with my expectations for a music app. It is ad-free, which is highly appreciated by myself and other Apple users because nobody enjoys having to sit through ads to play the music they want. My top five artists for this year were Drake, 21 Savage, SZA, Zach Bryan, and J. Cole. I feel like this is entirely accurate, and I feel as if Apple did a great job with my rankings this year. I love Apple Music and do not see myself ever changing what music app I use.
The people at THS definitely have their opinions on which music app is the top dog. Though these apps do essentially the same thing, people still find a way to argue their side of which is truly the best.
