Athletes hit off the season at tryouts
Baseball season is right around the corner. Monday, February 23rd marked the beginning of tryouts, the athletes have come together to prove they have what it takes to be on the Tunstall baseball team.
With 23 wins last season and only 5 losses, it’s a tough team to be a part of.
Sophomore Jake Lee recalled about 30 athletes on Monday, February 23rd and about 42 on Tuesday, February 24th. First baseman, Lee, thinks that the amount of athletes was extraordinarily high and it will make for a better team this season.
The recent winter mix had a big effect on the days, times, and facilities availablefor tryouts. Coach Shelton and Coach Austin had to work around the snowy weather conditions by having tryouts inside the gym for most of the week.
Lee has high hopes for the team this season and he also hopes to make it to state finals and get a fantastic win.
Softball has also started tryouts; they began Tuesday, February 24th and ended Wednesday, February 25th.
Due to the wintery mix, softball also held tryouts on Tuesday indoors.
With about 20-30 girls trying out, it becomes harder to make the team.
“I hope to make the team since I’ve been playing for so long,” says Junior Sarabeth Meyer, “I definitely will have to work hard for my position on the team.”
The coaches and girls all just want to have a successful season. “I hope to have a more successful season and with our girls I think it’s possible.” says freshman Sidney Foster.
