One of the new faces around Tunstall High School is Mr. Jack, the new College Advisor. He is an essential part of the Tunstall High School staff who provides an undeniably helpful service to the students on campus. However, he hasn’t always been a college advisor. He started his journey like any other college student, and his life is definitely worth looking into!
Before college, Mr. Jack worked at Cracker Barrel, but eventually, he chose to join the William and Mary Pathway program instead of going to another school. Mr. Jack stated that he did many things in the program like taking dual classes, and though he liked it some, he ended up flunking out of the program. He decided to go to Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. While at Roanoke College, he was able to travel through the May Term Program, and went on a trip to Spain.
During his college life, Mr. Jack was a part of many clubs, and, at one point, he was the Roanoke College mascot, Rooney. During this time, he also had multiple college jobs, where the government would pay his college to pay him through work study. He said, “College jobs didn’t pay much, but with a dorm, it gave me room to pay off debts and buy some snacks!”
He was a member of the Historic Society as Secretary for a while. While he worked there, they wouldn’t let him cook since he accidentally gave everyone food poisoning. He was going to be a RA (College Resident Advisor) but decided against it because he preferred orientation leader over RA.
Now, Mr. Jack works here at THS. He got his job here from interviewing at every high school in the state, with the college advisor Ms.M, and Tunstall chose him over other applicants. “It was like speed dating,” Mr. Jack said. One day he wants to go back to college to be a history professor, and he says history is his calling. He already has a degree in history, but now he needs a master’s in history!
