After 13 years, the sociology class has made its return to the Tunstall curriculum. The class is full of students ready to learn about society and its interactions. The class is taught by long-time educator, Jennifer Watson.
Watson says that Mrs. Mills makes her have the leftovers, and this class was just that. However, Watson thinks that it is a magnificent leftover. “This has been a breath of fresh air,” said Watson.
Watson loves that the class has a ton of diversity because it is about society and how diverse society is. The class has students of many different races, genders, and backgrounds. “I just want these kids to learn, love to learn, and feel that this is a safe place for them to be, and I want them to come to class every day,” said Watson. Watson wants her students to respect other groups of people and cultures, as well as have an understanding of where they fit into society.
Any student who has had Watson knows she loves to make her classes fun for everyone. “I can’t teach if I think you’re bored,” said Watson. She wants to keep all of her students engaged, and she does so by creating fun activities; that belief has not changed for her sociology class.
While the class completes their notes, Watson leads them in discussions about the topics they are studying. The class enjoys talking and debating about topics that they care about.
The class is excited to see what Watson has planned for the rest of the semester.
