On Friday, September 6, 2024, the Tunstall Trojans varsity football team faced the Chatham Cavaliers at 7:00 pm at THS. The team consists of 28 players who have been working hard since January, training and preparing for the new season. The stands are always packed with eager and excited fans each Friday night. Unfortunately, the Trojans were defeated. The final score was 36-32, but it was an exciting game regardless of the score.
Pregame Thoughts:
Senior and team captain Eben Turner said he felt “confident and excited” about the game. Before the games, Turner likes to sit on the home bleachers and listen to music. He has been playing football for eight years. The quarterback this year is sophomore Joshua Neal. He has been playing football for four years. He said that he felt confident when thinking about the game. His pregame routine consists of relaxing and listening to music. When asked how he likes being a quarterback, he said, “Being quarterback makes me feel more confident about myself.”
Game Breakdown:
During the game, Quarterback Josh Neal threw two receiving touchdown passes. Dakaden Pritchett threw one touchdown and had one rushing touchdown, as well. Aiden Totten scored two touchdowns, and Kaden Brower scored one touchdown. There were also some two point conversions scored. Despite all their efforts, Trojans just narrowly missed a win with the final 36-32 score.
Postgame Thoughts:
Freshman Devin Dodd attends as many football games as possible. He enjoys the football games because he gets to spend extra time with his friends. After the game, Dodd stated, “I thought the game was good even though I barely watched it.” Freshman AJ Warren also attends all of the football games he can. He even walks from his house to get to them. Warren’s favorite thing about games is the energy. He goes to hang out with friends as well. Warren felt as though the game was a wonderful experience.
Despite the loss, the game was filled with action, excitement, and school spirit. The next game is Friday, September 13th, 2024 at home against the Gretna Hawks.
