If there is anyone sure to know the college application process, it is the teachers here at Tunstall High School. What better way to build to VA College Application Week than to dive into the collegiate history of each of our teachers?
Patricia Gee
Ms. Gee says her application process had its struggles. This was because she had no help with the process, so she had to figure the steps out on her own. She applied to at least three different schools, including Virginia Tech and Averett University. She attended Virginia Tech, where she received her bachelor’s degree and began working as an accountant after. She did accounting for fourteen years before receiving her teaching certification while working at Salem College. If she had any advice to give seniors, it would be to do research on college and employers beforehand, ask questions if you feel unsure, and choose a college/career based on your passions and what you want in life.
Keith Richardson
Mr. Richardson received several offers for football scholarships after high school. However, after high school, he was drafted into the military, and once he returned, he attended Elon University. Originally, he wanted to be a coach, so that’s what he did. He was a coach for ten years and loved it. Eventually, coaching became time-consuming, and he wanted to be able to spend more time with his family. This led him to teaching because he had a desire to learn new things. His advice for seniors is to “pick something you enjoy. Don’t go to work, go to enjoy yourself and life.” He explained that education should always be encouraged because “the workforce isn’t something you just walk into, you have to be prepared.”
