Micah Rutherford is a new student here at Tunstall. Though he hasn’t been here long, his presence has grabbed the attention of many individuals here. He grew up in Danville and went to Forest Hills until sixth grade. After attending public school, he was homeschooled for five years before coming to Tunstall to complete his senior year.
Rutherford was invited to Tunstall by Coach Stick for his special talents in football. Before transferring to Tunstall, Rutherford was trained separately by Coach Stick at Dan River. Here at Tunstall, Rutherford plays many different positions on the football team. Most often, he either plays running back or defensive line.
Currently, he cannot participate in any of the practices because he sustained an injury a few weeks ago. He damaged his leg by going to block somebody and being tackled. Rutherford states that he is very excited to get back in the game and rejoin his teammates where he states that “everybody is like family.” He also says that he hopes to be well enough to play in the homecoming game against Bassett. Rutherford score predictions are that Tunstall will win 20-14.
Although Rutherford was invited here for his outstanding achievements in football, he also has a love for basketball. Rutherford says he does not aspire to go into the NFL; however, he would like to attempt to go into the NBA. When he graduates, he wants to go into sports management and coaching as a future career. Overall, Rutherford loves it here at Tunstall and is happy he decided to transfer.
