Vice Chairman Neal Oakes congratulates Tunstall’s new principal, Mr. Boles.

On Tuesday, March 10, 2015, the new principal of Tunstall was announced to be Brian Boles, former Assistant Principal of Dan River.

“It’s exciting,” said Boles on the official naming of his new role. “I have long wanted to be a school principal. I absolutely love kids.”

As he takes on the role, he hopes to establish and build relationships with students and faculty. His long term goals include wanting to maintain what Tunstall has already accomplished while also striving to improve. “[I] always want to do better,” he said on his belief that “nothing is ever 100 percent.”

Mrs. Elizabeth Craig, the Director of Middle and Secondary Education, stated that the top five desirable qualities expressed by both parents and teachers for the new principal is that he/she would hold “good communication skills, [be] approachable, visible, confidential, and [a] disciplinary.”

Junior Chelsea Custer stated that she hopes for the new principal to be “good with kids, but also someone you can talk to.”

The process of becoming selected as principal is quite lengthy and extensive; the screening for interviews is conducted by the four Assistant Superintendents.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity.”
