Around the school, there are many new faces to be seen. While many people think of freshmen as annoying and clumsy, there are some that are actually really interesting people with good personalities. They are almost three months into their high school career, and most of them seem to be used to everything now.
Drake Weller is a popular freshman that you will see around the school. He is very funny and has a really bright personality. When asked what he thinks about high school, he says “it’s alright but also pretty draining.” Weller has only joined one club so far, and that is FCA. His favorite class is his first period, Mr. Thompson’s class, because he says Mr. Thompson is “so funny and goated.” He says the biggest difference between middle and high school is how strict the rules are. He says, “It’s definitely not as strict up here as it was down there.” Weller was not on the homecoming court this year, but he said “I wanted to sign up, but I didn’t. Maybe next year.” Weller also said that he hopes to play soccer. “Hopefully I’ll make the varsity team one day.”
Josie Glasscock is on the JV volleyball team but suffered an injury early in the season. She says that high school is “amazing,” but she misses having the PBIS parties that they had at the middle school. PBIS parties are just a reward for students with good behavior and good attendance. She is also in FCA. Her favorite aspect about high school is getting to see her friends every day. Glasscock says, “My favorite teacher is Mr. Thompson because he is funny.” She wanted to add that “people need to be more kind here, especially when they don’t even know you.”
Devin Dodd, known as “Dmac” to his friends, is a part of many friend groups in the freshman class. He likes high school so far, even though he says “it’s a lot of walking, and it’s either really hot, or really cold- no in between.” Dodd has only joined FCA so far. He said that his favorite class is gym because he likes playing basketball. “My favorite teacher is Mr. Shelton because he is very amazing and makes gym fun,” Dodd stated. He says one major difference between the high school and middle school is the lunch here. He said that he liked lunch better at the middle school, but there is more freedom up here, which he likes. “I like being able to walk around freely with my friends, “ he said.
Sophie Kendrick said that “high school is great!” She is a very high-spirited person and is always smiling. Her favorite thing about high school is having more freedom. She likes being with her friends more, as well. Her least favorite aspect of high school, though, is encountering more rude people. Kendrick is active in two clubs: FCA and SCA. Her favorite teacher is Mr. Thompson because he is “ funny and the best ever.” She also thinks that high school is better than middle school.
Last but not least, there is AJ Warren. Many in this school know Warren because of his very bright and outgoing personality. He doesn’t meet a stranger and is always making people laugh in some way. He is a very positive person. He says that “high school is chill. It’s just a lot of walking.” Warren is involved in FCA and SCA. His favorite teacher is Mr. Moore because “he is a funny person.” He really likes gym class because he is good at basketball and likes to play with his friends. He says that he loves the people here, but sometimes there can be a lot of drama. He also loves the extra freedom here. Warren was on the homecoming court this year, and he said that it was cool. When asked if he would do it again, he said he definitely would. Warren isn’t in any sports right now, but he does plan on trying out to play basketball for next season.
There are many good students in the freshmen class, and they each have their own unique personalities!
