After many students graduate from THS, they pursue careers in many places, but some have chosen to teach and they decided to come back to achieve it.
Ms. Tiffany Bowker graduated from Tunstall in 2016. She attended Averett University and graduated in 2020. She first started teaching at 7th grade at Dan River Middle School, but she later decided that middle school was not for her. “I wanted to go in detail with the reading, not just the basics,” said Bowker. She said that her favorite memories at THS include her time in the band. She also recalled a time in Mrs. Mills’s world history class when they were studying World War II, and they reenacted it by flipping the tables in the library and throwing paper balls at each other.
Mr. Malik Thornton is the band director. He graduated from THS in 2020, and he attended Longwood University, where he majored in music education. He chose to come back because he wanted to promote the arts in Pittsylvania County. Thornton has many fond memories of THS, but he thinks that they are not able to be shared. Thornton has seen many changes since he came back, but the biggest change is that THS offers more elective classes now.
Mrs. Jennifer Watson graduated from THS in 1990. She went to Radford University and graduated in 1994. She originally taught at Dan River and Chatham. She recounted a time when Dan River and Chatham were playing against each other in a basketball game, and she was asked what side she was rooting for. “I told them that my blood bleeds crimson and silver,” said Watson. Her mother instilled in her that she should give back to her community and that is why she came back here to teach. Watson said that the school has had many changes since she attended here. Almost the entire school has been redone, and more college prep classes are offered.
These teachers have shown a dedication to the school they once attended and that shows through their teaching.
