The TV shows that I grew up watching have left a lasting impression on me to this day. Personally, I grew up with two older sisters who influenced most of the television I watched, and I am sure my fellow younger siblings had the same experience. There are many shows I watched as a child, but only a few make my list of favorites.
Dora the Explorer
Dora the Explorer is one of the most nostalgic children’s shows of all time and was first released in 2000. In this show, Dora, the main character, is a young hispanic girl who takes the audience on many adventures with her friends and family. In addition, Dora teaches the audience basic Spanish phrases such as “up” and “down,” which translate to “arriba” and “abajo.” Her sidekick, Boots, is a little monkey who wears red rain boots, and he is a very comical character; he is my personal favorite. Dora the Explorer is a classic in my books and always made me happy as a kid, so it will forever be memorable.
Sofia the First
Sofia the First is a 2012 television show that features a young village girl who “becomes a princess overnight.” The theme song to this show is forever engraved in my brain, and I will always sing along when I hear it. Each episode of the show depicts Sofia and her friends learning life lessons and growing as people. These episodes have great messages on friendship and kindness, which is why I feel that this show is a great option for children. This show was something I grew up watching on repeat, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
The 2010 show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is about a group of pony friends. These girls call themselves the “mane” six because they are the six main characters who are little horses. The basis of this show is learning lessons about friendship, which I feel greatly influenced me as a kid. Every episode is about the girls growing up and becoming better people and friends, so it has a great message for young audiences. When I was little, I was able to recite almost every episode, word-for-word, along with the songs. It truly was my all time favorite show, and it still brings back memories to hear the theme song.
There are many other amazing children’s shows that are available on different platforms, but I feel that these in particular had the longest lasting impact on my childhood. I would highly recommend all three of these nostalgic television shows to children of all ages!
