*******************SPOILER ALERT******************
The new season of Outer Banks, released on October 10th and November 7th, was filled with twists and turns. In the season three finale, the Pogues are rescued from Poguelandia but face new challenges in Barbados. Kiara is kidnapped by treasure hunter Carlos Singh, and John B. discovers that his father, Big John, is alive. The season ends with a cliffhanger involving a manuscript of Blackbeard, hinting at their next adventure.
Season four begins eighteen months later, with the Pogues attempting to recreate their paradise, but soon, they have trouble. They get swept up in looking for Blackbeard’s lost treasure. Their adventure takes them to Morocco, where they search for Groff, who we also find out during this season is JJ’s biological father and the Blue Crown. Tensions rise as Rafe gets involved, and they encounter various obstacles.
In the final episode of this season, JJ is killed by Groff, his biological father, while trying to save Kiara, leaving the group heartbroken. This shocking ending added tension and would make people want to tune in to the next season, but for me, it was heartbreaking. I love the character of JJ and how he really held the group together during difficult times; he always seemed to bring life to the group. While I understand that it was a dramatic way to end the season and to keep viewers interested, I don’t agree with how it was done. In my opinion, if JJ had to die, I would have preferred it to be in a more heroic way because that’s the kind of character he is. He has always put his friends before himself, and I believe he would have gladly sacrificed himself for them.
This season was one of my favorites other than the ending. The new season promised a lot of drama and action, and it definitely delivered.
