Kicking it with Travel Soccer Students
Travel soccer is the soccer teams and leagues that play more than just local competitions. They also have a more demanding selection process to be able to play. They have a more demanding selection process, as well as access to better coaching and more talented players. Travel soccer teams often practice more frequently and have more opportunities for games than a regular school soccer team. Many of the travel soccer teams’ games are held at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, VA.
Jacob Davidson
Jacob Davidson is a senior here at Tunstall who has been playing soccer, specifically travel soccer, for almost 11 years. He doesn’t just play for the school; he plays year-round and drives to Martinsville or Greensboro for all of his practices. Davidson says one of the things he loves about it is that he gets to tell people when they’re doing something wrong. Davidson also says his biggest supporters are his parents and girlfriend who come to all of his games. His position is a right full back, and he plays for the PYSL team.
Chase Beltram
Chase Beltram has been playing travel soccer for 8 years; he plays for the Fusion team and his position is right back/ winger. His team practices at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and practice times usually last anywhere from 1-2 hours. Beltram says one of his favorite things about travel soccer is teamwork, and his biggest supporters are his mom and his grandpa. His previous game was the last of the season, and they ended it with a win of 2-1. Beltram states, “I love being able to play with my friends, and everyone is like family.”
Overall, there are many talented students here at Tunstall High School. Jacob Davidsons prediction for the game on Saturday was correct with a win of 3-1! We also interviewed some of the other players who were on the losing team, they claim that “We were disappointed we lost, but we had fun playing and that’s all that matters.”
