Christmas is a well-known holiday, but there has been some slight controversy over decorating this year; “Tacky” or aesthetic Christmas has been the topic of conversation. “Tacky” Christmas is what is known as a homey, traditional Christmas whereas aesthetic Christmas is when everything matches to a specific color scheme or theme.
A tacky Christmas is when your Christmas decorations and tree are all mismatched and don’t tie into a specific theme or color scheme, which can also be seen as a more cozy or comforting Christmas. Many people grow up with tacky Christmas decorations and tend to continue it on when they grow up.
In my opinion, I love a “tacky” Christmas because it is just so nostalgic. Also, there isn’t anything tacky about it to me; why would you want your Christmas to be neutral and boring? To me, Christmas is supposed to be family-oriented and mean something more than just a color scheme. A Christmas tree is supposed to have ornaments that have a meaning to them and hold memories. My family has ornaments that have been given to us over the years and we always put them on our Christmas tree.
Aesthetic Christmas is a new concept but many people enjoy the look of clean organized look. The most popular aesthetics are white and black; pink and gold; and red and white. Also, it is simpler to decorate with one of these themes. You don’t have to collect or be given ornaments, so you can go and buy them, which can make it a more convenient way of decorating.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I stand by mine and love a good family oriented, “tacky” Christmas. While “tacky” Christmas is the decor style I prefer, families should choose what makes them happy and fits their lifestyle!
