In March 2023, Taylor Swift began the highest-grossing tour of all time: The Eras Tour. The Eras Tour spanned from March 2023 to December 2024. Swift and her crew traveled all over the world, starting in the United States, then going to South America, Australia, Europe, and then back to North America. Every show lasted a minimum of three and a half hours and had a very large number of attendees, consisting of approximately 10 million people.
Throughout The Eras Tour, many traditions started among fans. One of the most famous examples is making friendship bracelets. In Taylor Swift’s song “You’re On Your Own, Kid,” one of the lyrics is “make the friendship bracelets.” After hearing this song, fans took this literally and made friendship bracelets to trade with each other at the concerts. Another trend during this tour was fans holding up their flashlights on their phones while Swift performed her song “Marjorie,” which is about her grandmother who passed away when she was thirteen. In addition, many people did go to The Eras Tour because there were still so many people who were unable to get tickets. For this reason, people in attendance started live streaming the show on social media platforms so the ones who were not able to go could still enjoy it.
Throughout the tour, the concert itself has changed quite a bit. When it first started, the show consisted of 10 different eras, one of which is an acoustic section in which she plays one song on guitar and one song on piano from any of her albums, each being different every night. Two months after the tour began, Swift announced she was re-releasing her third studio album, Speak Now. In July of 2023 when she released Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), she added her song “Long Live” to the Speak Now section of the tour. The biggest change in the setlist occurred when she released her newest album, The Tortured Poets Department. When she did this she added eight songs from the album to the setlist. When she did this, she had to take songs out of the concert to avoid the show being too long.
With the tour ending, many people have a similar question: What do we do now? For nearly two years, the lives of so many people have revolved around watching live streams, making bets on the outfits she will wear, and questioning which surprise songs she was going to sing each night. Although Swift released a book and a movie for The Eras Tour, it is still hard to think that it is be over.
